The
STAGS opened their 2008 season with an 8 - 6 loss to Long Beach
Catholic at Barasch Field on Tuesday April 1.
Joe Wilhelm pitched four innings, surrendering eight runs
on five hits and recording seven strikeouts.
Hitting highlights were Connor Powers (one out single in
the second), John Palladino (RBI groundout in the third), Nick
Primiano (single in the third), Bobby Keating (2 RBI double in
the third), and Peter Fotheringham (RBI single in the fourth).
The
next day, Wednesday April 2 the STAGS defeated St. William the
Abbot 12 - 1 at Eisenhower Park.
Bobby Keating pitched three innings of no run and no hit
baseball, walking five and striking out seven.
Brendan Turansky pitched in relief and allowed one run
while striking out one. Hitting
highlights were Chris Agresti (2 for 2, RBI), Brendan Doyle
(single, RBI bases loaded walk), Peter Fotheringham (RBI
sacrifice fly and 2 RBI single), Bobby Keating (RBI single),
John Palladino (double), Mike Palladino (2 RBI single), and Mike
Roche (2 RBI single).
On
Monday April 7, the STAGS defeated St. Elizabeth 14 - 2 at
Barasch Field. Bobby
Keating pitched four innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and
striking out 9 batters. Hitting
highlights were Chris Agresti (RBI groundout), Brendan Doyle
(RBI bases loaded walk), Peter Fotheringham (RBI triple), Bobby
Keating (single plus two walks), John Palladino (3 runs scored,
2 singles, 2 RBI), Mike Palladino (RBI sacrifice fly, plus a
single), Paul Pruyn (RBI groundout), Mike Roche (RBI bases
loaded walk), Brendan Turansky (2 RBI single) and Joe Wilhelm (2
walks and a 2 RBI double).
The
STAGS defeated St. Christopher’s 17 – 1 on Wednesday April 9
at
Eisenhower
Park

2 batters. Peter
Fotheringham pitched in relief and struck out two in his one
inning. Hitting

On
Monday April 14, the STAGS defeated Our Lady of Peace 2 - 1 at
Barasch Field on a walk-off, bottom of the eight suicide squeeze
bunt single by Brendan Doyle, scoring Mike Palladino.
Palladino lead off the inning with a single plus a two
base error. Joe
Wilhelm pitched seven innings, allowing only one run and two
hits, striking out 13 batters.
Brendan Turansky struck out all three batters he faced in
the eight and picked up the win.
The STAGS offense sputtered as Collin Ayers held the
potent bats at bay. Connor
Powers stroked a leadoff single in the fourth to break up the
no-hitter and scored on Joe Wilhelm’s RBI fielder’s choice.
The
STAGS defeated St. Christopher’s for the second time on
Thursday April 17 at Barasch Field by the score of 7 - 3.
Bobby Keating pitched five innings, allowing 3 runs on 3
hits and striking out 5. Brendan
Turansky recorded 5 strike outs of the 5 outs he pitched.
Brendan Doyle struck out the only batter he faced to end
the contest. Hitting
highlights were Chris Agresti (two out home run to left field in
the second, RBI single in the sixth), Brendan Doyle (RBI bases
loaded walk in the first), Bobby Keating (leadoff single in the
fifth), John Palladino (leadoff single in the third), Mike
Palladino (single in the first, plus two run home run in the
third, RBI single in the fifth and RBI bases loaded walk in the
seventh), and Paul Pruyn (single in the first).
The
STAGS improved their record to six wins and one loss with an 11
- 2 victory over St. Mary’s on Tuesday April 22 at
Eisenhower
Park

pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out
seven. Brendan
Turansky (scoreless inning), Mike Roche (two runs allowed in one
inning), and Brendan Doyle (one strikeout in one inning) each
pitched in relief. Hitting
highlights were Chris Agresti (2 for 4, single and RBI double),
Brendan Doyle (3 walks including one bases loaded for a RBI),
Bobby Keating (4 walks plus a seventh inning single), Mike
Palladino (RBI fielder’s choice in the sixth), Connor Powers
(2 for 4, singles in the fourth and sixth), Paul Pruyn (RBI
fielder’s choice in the third and single in the sixth), Mike
Roche (RBI double in the fifth and RBI bases loaded walk in the
6th), Brendan Turansky (RBI bases loaded walk in the third),
Connor Baker (RBI bases loaded walk in the sixth), and Matt
Whelan (RBI single in the fourth).
St.
William visited Barasch Field on Thursday April 24 and lost to
the STAGS 13 - 4. Brendan
Turansky allowed one run in three innings, striking out four
batters. Mike Roche
pitched two innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits and
striking out three. Brendan
Doyle finished the game on the mound, allowing two runs and
recording four strikeouts. Hitting
highlights were Brendan Doyle (third inning single), Bobby
Keating (RBI groundout and a 2 RBI double), John Palladino (2
for 2 with 2 walks and a RBI), Mike Palladino (3 for 3, RBI in
the second inning), Connor Powers (RBI single in the second),
Mike Roche (2 for 3, RBI singles in both the second and the
third), and Jesse Bernesby (RBI groundouts in both the second
and third innings).
The
STAGS will play on Tuesday May 6 at Barasch Field, Thursday May
8 at Kellenberg Memorial and Friday May 9 at
