Fr.
John McCarthy was born in Brooklyn and raised in Levittown.
His home parish is Saint James in Seaford. Upon graduation
from Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in 1978 he entered the
United States Navy and served with honor in the aviation field for
twenty-year period.
During
his Naval career he earned a B.S. degree in Professional
Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He retired
from active duty in 1998 and served on Naval Air Systems Command
staff for five years at Patuxent River, Maryland. Prior to
entering the seminary, he was active in his parish as an
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Usher, Parish Council
and Knights of Columbus.
Fr. John first
enrolled in the Seminary of Blessed John XXIII, in Weston,
Massachusetts before transferring to the Seminary of the Immaculate
Conception. He served his pastoral year at St. Anthony of Padua
in East Northport and his diaconate at Holy Spirit in New Hyde Park. Fr.
John was ordained on June 14, 2008 with St. Agnes Cathedral as his
first priestly assignment. He
enjoys all types of sports, travel and history. Fr. John says,
"It comes with deep joy, honor and privilege to be called by God
to possibly serve His Church and His people in the future for the
Diocese of Rockville Centre."
