St. Agnes Youth Ministry

What's it all about?

Whether you are a parent interested in finding out what our parish has to offer young people, or a young person yourself, the fact remains - growing up as a high school student can be very confusing.  Questions of faith, belief in God, morality, sex, AIDS, discrimination, and drug abuse are difficult issues for all people to discuss - especially youth.  St. Agnes Youth Ministry offers a wide range program especially designed to discuss these issues and make the teen years a fun, challenging and faith-filled experience.  Our mission is to provide a safe, accepting and non-judgmental atmosphere in which the young people of our parish can meet to learn about and discuss their faith.  We guide and support them as they mature into responsible, active and concerned members of our parish and Community.  We are very interested in what people have to say and in response we try to develop a sense of community in Christ.  Our young people are not only the future... they are the present

Sunday Nights
"Stay"

Our Sunday evenings begin with the 5:00pm Youth Mass.  Our Youth help to provide the Music Ministry, and serve as Lectors, Ushers, Greeters and Eucharistic Ministers.  Then we invite our youth group to STAY after Mass, and share a supper prepared and donated by families from the parish.  The Sunday night STAY meetings are from 6:00pm - 8:00pm in the Youth Office.  Some of the discussion topics are: peer pressure, prayer, self image, alcohol, and drug abuse, friendships and relationships, stress, divorce, consumerism and the list goes on.  The meetings are informal and all you have to do is show up to have a good time.

Wednesday Nights
"Spirit"

On Wednesday nights from 7:00pm - 9:00pm the Youth Group prepares to celebrate the Sunday Eucharist by looking more closely at the scripture readings and discussing the theme of the week.  Lectors prepare their reading and we go over the music that will be sung.  Together we will strengthen our relationship with Christ through a better understanding of his life and mission and the call to Stay in the Spirit!

Youth Retreats!!!

In addition to our many services for youth, we have found that retreat experiences have been a real community builder and have offered our youth group opportunities to "get away" and reflect on what is really important.  These retreats are staffed by youth ministry professionals and open to all those that seek to experience Christ in a personal way.

Youth Group Events

Sunday night meetings, Wednesday night meeting, retreats, movie nights, barbecues, bike trip retreats, theatre productions, music ministry, bowling nights, Bronx Zoo, Great Adventure, NYC Trips, Lock-ins, Ski Trips, Boat Trips, Car Washes, Christmas Caroling, Community Service and much, much more!!!

So let us show you what we can offer, as we Stay in the Spirit!
