Ministries and
Outreach - Youth |
Boy
Scouts - Sponsored
by the St. Agnes Council 2548 of the Knights of Columbus, Boy Scout Troop 163
and Cub Scout Troop 163 meet regularly at St. Agnes. Trained parent
leaders work with the boys to provide a well-organized, yet relaxed, fun
atmosphere in which they learn the principals of scouting, develop leadership
skills, build character, strengthen faith, and provide service to the parish and
the larger community. The full-year calendar of activities, include monthly
weekend camping/adventure trips as well as a one-week summer camp program in
July. Many scouts advance rapidly and there has been a long-standing tradition
of producing Eagle Scouts. Regular weekly meetings are held on Tuesday evenings
in the St. Agnes lower hall.
Cub Scout Pack 163 begins
in grade 1 and has monthly pack activities centered on family fun for scouts,
parents and siblings alike. The opportunity is provided for scouts to be
publicly recognized for their growth and advancement in scouting. Weekly den
meetings offer the setting for scouts to work on craft projects, enjoy games,
learn the principles of citizenship, develop character and experience leadership
in a safe, fun atmosphere. Learn more about the Boy Scouts by visiting www.scouting.org

Girl Scouts
- Girl scouting has a long tradition of service in the St. Agnes parish
community. Over 16 troops , from Daisies to Cadettes (Kindergarten age to 9th
Grade), are affiliated with the parish, which include close to 300 girls and 55
trained leaders. Meeting on a bi-weekly basis, Girl Scouts troops are actively
involved in numerous parish and community service projects (Maple Avenue
Planting Project, St. Agnes Blood Drive, Local Holiday Coat Drive, Working at
area soup kitchens, visiting the Sisters of Mercy). Girls are afforded the opportunities
of travel, experiential learning and service to the parish as well as surrounding
communities, in their troops.
Girl Scouts of
Rockville Centre recently won First Place in the 2003 St. Patrick's Day
Parade for Best-Uniformed Association where over 15 troops of all ages
were represented. Additionally, Cadet troops have been on the Today
Show in NYC, Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts Square Dance, Brownie
Bake-off, Hip Hop Night Out, Winter Ice Skating at Grant Park, and
Americana Night at the Recreation Center. In March 2003, Girl Scout
Sunday was celebrated by a mass at St. Agnes welcoming all Girl Scouts
and their families in Rockville Centre.
