Catechists
need both introductory and ongoing formation in theology, methodology, and
spirituality for their ministry. "Echoing the Word from the
Centre" is a formation process for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
When a
catechist completes all sessions, they become a certified catechist in our
diocese.
As
we look to the future of Religious Education, we can see that this is a most
important endeavor. Those entrusted to help parents pass on our Faith need
to deepen their understanding of the meaning of faith in their own lives, as
well as better ways to help our young children to explore the meaning of faith
and their relationship with the God who is always active and present in our
lives.
"Echoing
the Word from the Centre" Sessions are as follows: What is a Catechist?;
What is Catechetical Ministry?; Catechetical Tasks; The Catechetical
Environment; The Catechetical Session; Catechetical Resources; God's
Self-Disclosure; God's Encounter With Us; Respecting Human Experience; Nurturing
Human Growth; Moral and Sexual Development; and Seasons, Saints, Prayer and
Devotions. All catechists (veteran and new) are expected to attend all
sessions. The calendar indicates when each session is offered.
Diocesan
Child Protection Policy
The
Diocese of Rockville Centre is dedicated to promoting and ensuring the
protection of all children. The Diocese of Rockville Centre will do all in
it's power to create a safe environment for children and young people, to
prevent their physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect . . . (Diocesan Child
Protection Policy 2003)
All
Catechists are mandated (parents and guardians invited) to take part in Virtus:
Protecting God's Children, a program which provides training in the prevention,
recognition and reporting of child abuse. The calendar indicates dates for
sessions. |
