Catechists

The church has used the term "catechist" to describe the ministry which seeks to make faith ". . . living, conscious and active . . ." through teaching, prayer and witness, and which seeks to bring to maturity the seeds of faith sown by God.
(General Catechetical Directory 17)

Those called to faithfully and authentically echo the work of God in each age and to each generation are called "catechists".  Catechists are charged with the ministry of promoting and educating in faith every one "whosoever believes".
(Mark 16:16  General Directory for Catechists, 220)

We take this responsibility seriously and value the ministry of Catechists. The Catechist is interviewed and registered as a volunteer in the parish.  They are provided with initial and ongoing formation in order to ensure a fine quality of religious education.  Catechists will be present five to ten minutes before the scheduled class.  They will notify their class and the office ahead of time in the event they need to cancel a class.

Cancellation due to bad weather will follow the Rockville Centre School schedule

Due to an alarming increase in food allergies in children, Catechists must take great care in giving food to children and must have the permission of the parent.

There is absolutely NO food allowed in the St. Agnes Elementary School Building

Catechists must obtain a permission letter from the parents which allows the catechist to drive their child to any event if the need should arise for the religion class, service project, church tour, etc.

Please note that this is an important matter and should not be taken lightly.

Holy Agnes, pray for us
