The wonderful
moment of Christmas is just that; we are asked to put off our toiling and
let love in. If you stop and think about it for a minute, God did not ask
Mary to do anything. God did not ask Joseph to do anything. Rather he
asked them to let Him do something for them. God said let me act in your
life. Let me give you the gift of a child – not just any child – not
just the wonderful rejoicing of a couple seeking to have a child – but a
child who is the Son of God! Allow this child to touch your lives; allow
this child to show you who I am; allow this child to do something within
you, around you, above you, beneath you. Allow this child who is LOVE in.
At Christmas
all of us are busy toiling over many things to DO for other people. We
seek to DO special things for people. We seek to DO a wonderful dinner for
them. We seek to DO our shopping and give them a wonderful present. We
seek to DO a kind deed so that they can feel better. We seek to DO this
because this is the time to share with one another the wonders of God’s
abundant love for you and me – and we seek to show others that love
through our words and deeds.
But the
invitation this Christmas is to let GOD DO SOMETHING IN YOU. God is dying
to show us how much He loves us. God is so anxious for us to behold the
gentleness with which He treats each and every one of us. God is so
anxious to reveal Himself to you and to me. And you know He is different
than He was last year or last week. He is different than He was when we
were children celebrating Christmas. He is different because you and I are
different. But you and I are asked to open our eyes and see God – alive
in you, alive in me, alive in our world, alive in our joy, alive in our
pain, alive in all things.
Can a feast
that strings light over the entire world not have the power to light up
the dark areas of our hearts and souls with the caring love of God? The
feast of Christmas is prepared; the invitations are out. Who will come and
find God? He is here in our midst. Let us sing with the angels – GLORY
TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST. MAY HE BRING PEACE TO OUR WORLD, OUR
FAMILIES, OUR LIVES, AND OUR HEARTS.
Love,
Father Kelly
