Home Announcements › Fr. John McCarthy

From the Rector
  Dear Parishioners:

I write this letter with a sense of gratitude as well as a twinge of sadness.  As some of you might know, Father John McCarthy served in the United States Navy for twenty years prior to becoming a priest.  These years in service to our country made him keenly aware of the spiritual and pastoral needs of those who serve our country in this capacity.  With this in mind, Father McCarthy had requested permission from Bishop Murphy to server as a Military Chaplain should the opportunity arise.  He was given that permission.  I take this opportunity to inform you that such an opportunity did arise and, as a result, Father McCarthy will be leaving St. Agnes after the weekend of September 3-4 and will be moving to the King's Bay Naval Base in Georgia where he will begin serving the military personnel assigned there.  To say that we will miss Father John's presence, care and concern at St. Agnes is an understatement.  They are things for which we are most grateful.  At the same time, however, we know that the people of King's Bay will be richly blessed to have him serve them as a priest.
To commemorate Father John's time here at St. Agnes, I invite you to join fellow parishioners at the  9:30 a.m. Mass on September 4th with a reception following in the Parish Center.  It will be an opportunity to give thanks to God for blessing us with Father McCarthy's priestly ministry and express our gratitude to Father John for all the ways that he has helped us to know God's love.

In the Peace and Love of Christ
Fr. Bill
